Centers Update: Writing Letters Month
This month, the child centers were abuzz with excitement as the children participated in Writing Letters to their sponsors!
The kids spent time crafting thoughtful letters for their sponsors, sharing stories about their lives, dreams, and the activities they’ve been enjoying at the centers. While many organizations rely on traditional letter writing, Mission Life stands out by using technology and video messaging as the cornerstone of our sponsorship model. However, we also embrace letter writing as an intentional way to build meaningful relationships.
The act of writing letters adds a personal, creative touch that complements our use of video messages. It’s a fun and engaging activity for the kids, giving them an opportunity to express themselves while strengthening their connection with their sponsors.
The impact of these exchanges is profound. Whether it’s a heartfelt letter or a video message, hearing from their sponsors fills the children with joy and affirmation. It reminds them they are loved, seen, and supported by someone far away who truly cares about their well-being.
At Mission Life, sponsorship is about more than financial support—it’s about forging genuine, lasting relationships. By integrating both modern tools and timeless practices like letter writing, we create opportunities for sponsors and children to connect in meaningful ways, bridging distances with love and hope.
Bible Day: A Celebration of Faith and Learning
One of the highlights was the celebration of Bible Day, an event that united children and parents for a day of reflection on the significance of the Bible. Together, children, teachers, and volunteers explored the ongoing challenges faced by over 4,500 language groups worldwide that still do not have access to the Bible in their native tongue. The event also showcased the important translation work being done to bring the Word of God to Colombia’s ethnic communities, ensuring more people can experience the Bible in their heart language.
The day was filled with engaging workshops and activities for all ages designed to foster learning, family connection, and community bonds. It was an opportunity for spiritual growth and unity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.
Educational Talks on the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse
In Villavicencio, Colombia, the team took a proactive approach to safeguarding children and teens by conducting educational talks focused on the prevention of child sexual abuse. The initiative began with training sessions for parents, ensuring they were informed about the topics to be addressed with their children.
With the support of dedicated volunteers, tutors, and coordinators, the program emphasized the importance of physical, social, and spiritual integrity. Teens participated in classes, engaging in activities like questionnaires and discussions about recognizing their bodies as temples of the Spirit. Younger children participated in sessions featuring games, practical activities, and coloring booklets. These illustrated materials taught them how to distinguish between safe, unsafe, and confusing touches, as well as the difference between good and bad secrets.
The children were also equipped with three essential rules for seeking help:
If a stranger approaches you, shout “Stranger!” and get away.
Say “No!”
Tell a trusted adult.
To round out the month, themed games brought joy and education to the centers. Activities like treasure hunts encouraged critical thinking and problem resolution, while memory games strengthened retention and recognition. These festive yet purposeful activities provided a fun way for children to develop cognitive skills while celebrating the beginning of the holiday season.
