His Call to Love - Devotional
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” -1 Corinthians 13: 4-8a

I wish I could say this is the love I live out daily and the love that I extend to everyone in every situation at all times. I wish I could say that my walk is so close to God that I have mastered His perfect love.
I have not. It is a goal and a need for grace. It is what I strive to walk towards and often stumble.
In 1 John 4, it tells us that “God is love.” Love is not what he does, it is who He is and so I seek to remain in Him in order to grow in His love, to receive it and to give it away. There is simply no other way.
This scripture is not a command but rather a call, a call to live and love like God.
God is love and His perfect love is calling the wounded and the weary to enter in and rest in His love. He knows that we will struggle and fall along the way of learning to love. He knows our human nature will rebel and request its own way for that is the very reason the first attribute of love is patience.
God is love and He is patient with you and me. So, let’s be patient with each other and ourselves as we seek to grow and live this beautiful and holy call to love.
