Be Still - Devotional
“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
Written by: Krista Collins
Being still sounds easy. To simply do nothing and just relax.
It sounds easy until you are asked to do it, or even worse, forced into stillness. However, we are told in the “still” we learn the truth -- He is God.
My daughter broke her wrist once and she was forced to wear a cast -- forced by bright pink fiberglass into stillness. Unable to move her wrist she learned just how hard it was to be truly still. Dealing with the uncomfortable of life, with the use of only one hand, brought new struggles and new challenges. Not to mention the itchy irritation that comes from being held until healed.
Weeks of being “still,” held in place and uncomfortable, until the broken bone could mend -- and you can’t rush the mending of the broken. And we cannot see or feel the mending of the bones. It’s all done away from our eyes -- under the pink fiberglass cast and layers of skin. But just because we can’t see it does not mean God is not at work. God is always at work in the life of His beloved children.
So remember, when you feel stuck and uncomfortable; when every doorway seems to lead to a brick wall; when it feels like your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling; when you cry out and hear nothing but silence -- breathe deep. Sit back and get comfortable in the still. You are on the edge of a whole new revelation of who your God is.
