Message from Angel Galvis, Mission Life Founder and CEO

“We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” - Ephesians 2:10

Our team prays over sick patients at the hospital in Nicaragua.

I just got back from a mission trip to Nicaragua with a team of people from our partners at One Church and Mission Life. We served alongside REAP Granada. This organization is doing an amazing job in this community. They love people and share the love of God with them. They also give love to everyone who goes there to serve with them.

REAP Granada has a very special place in my heart. This was the first place I went on a mission trip back in 2017. It was invigorating to witness the difference they have made in 5 years.

We visited many people in this community. The team went on prayer walks, served meals and shared the Word at the local dump. We prayed for the sick at the hospital and with people in the streets. We visited the jail, micro churches, and children’s ministry at the farm where REAP Granada is located.

I can tell you many stories of the people we encountered. Many received Jesus, healing, food, and lots of love. We also received incredible love.

Our team serves lunch at the local dump ministry.

Today, I’d like to share one particular story that brings me great joy. It is the story of a young boy named Leandro. He is in the photo with me above.

During one of the prayer walks, we stopped by Leandro’s home. He was sitting outside his house with his two younger sisters on a school day. The local team leader seemed to be familiar with the boy’s mom and he asked for her when he saw them. As it turns out, she wasn’t home and Leandro had to skip school to take care of his sisters while their mom worked.

I asked Leandro what he wants to be when he grows up. Can you guess what his answer was? Yes, he said a soccer player but what really struck me was how he said it. He didn’t say, “I want to be.” He said, “I wanted to be.” At 16 years old, it seemed like he had already accepted in his mind that he wasn't going to reach his dream.

I felt God “poking the bear.” It is a phrase I use when I feel God is tugging on my heart to take action. God was encouraging me to talk to Leandro some more.

Leandro did not have a good concept about church. He thought it was boring and I felt it was stopping him from knowing what was really important. I told him while it is beneficial to share community at church with like minded individuals, the most important thing is to know God and be in a relationship with Him.

Our conversation started with his favorite soccer player and his dream of becoming one and then it evolved to finding his life purpose and how Jesus is the way to realize our purpose.

Leandro accepted Jesus that day and now he is connected to one of the soccer players who currently visits the ministry at REAP Granada. He is looking forward to growing in his relationship with God and finding his mission and purpose.

As we approach this Christmas season, I would like to invite you to help us provide these children with gifts, tools, and resources that will continue to guide them in their quest for purpose, their mission in life, and to bring them hope.

When you have hope, you have a path and motivation to reach your dreams.

The Rainy Season Creates Some Challenges at the Child Hope Center

Our partner in Rwanda is keeping a close eye on land at the Child Hope Center in Kimisagara. Heavy rains are causing some damage to an area that needs a retaining wall.
