“One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;” - Proverbs 11:24a

Take a guess on what all those kids are smiling and laughing at? That’s right, they were making fun of me (for something I tried to say in their language). The environment we surround ourselves in and the experiences we share stay with us and impact our lives and what we become.

Like many children around the world, I witnessed things that had a tremendous impact on my life. I mean, imagine growing up in the heart of the Colombian drug cartel during the 90’s, with no choice but to hope to get out alive. Many of these things shaped the way I live and what I hope can be different for future generations.

In modern day society, the youth even in developed communities, live and witness the struggles of humanity in different ways. Some see struggles through violence and persecution, others through lack of resources and education, and yet others through sickness and diseases.

Today, we are seeing a combination of all of these and it has resulted in one big issue, our children’s mental health. Teenagers and children in all corners of the world deal with issues we don’t even recognize until it is too late. Substance abuse, anxiety and depression, social injustice, racism, lack of empathy and spirituality, are among the issues generating the discord and destruction of our society.

At Mission Life, we are trying to do something about it. We’ve developed a Service Learning Project to connect children around the world and teach Christian values so they can become future spiritual leaders that will help change the world. These values will help them make decisions that will prevent them from taking paths that would otherwise result in negative consequences for their mental health as well as others.

But we all need to pitch in. We all have a part in making the world a better place. It is as simple as changing ONE life.
