Deb reconnecting with a mom at the Child Hope Center

What an awesome day we had in Rwanda today. After a good night’s sleep, we were all feeling refreshed.

Chet and Shema! Can you guess which is which?

We went to the Child Hope Center in the Kimironko section of Rwanda. As we pulled up we were greeted by a sea of beautiful faces singing songs of welcome to us. It was so clear how wonderful the teachers are with instructing them.

All of the teachers at the center show that they are full of love for these precious little children. We went into the center and they sang to us some more. They are mostly three and four year olds. They were so adorable I could have taken all of them back home with me! Their smiles just lift up your spirits.

At lunchtime we served the children their midday meal. I can’t explain the joy in my heart at being able to be a part of this moment.

God is so amazing with all that he has provided. After everyone had lunch it was time for the puppet show that we put on for them. To see their faces light up when our puppets, Josie and Shema appeared over the curtain was priceless. It was so much fun telling them the story of David and Goliath.

After the children left for the day we were able to tour the Child Hope Center classrooms. These wonderful teachers are amazing and are teaching the children both in English and their native language of Kinyarwanda.

When we departed the center, we arrived back at the Iris which is where we are staying. We had about an hour of downtime before we went onto our next adventure. We went to a youth center called the House of Prayer in Kigali that featured a live Christian band. More to follow about that band in a future post. The music was beautiful and it was evident how much they loved God and you could feel his presence in the room tonight.

We then went and had dinner and held our group meeting also mapping out our next day of adventure.

This trip in partnership with One church and Mission Life has been incredible and we look forward to seeing what the days ahead will bring us.
