Day 7

Praying over the sick at hospital.

As I go through the photos and videos taken during our time in Nicaragua, I can’t stop thinking about how God manifests Himself through the love of His people. Every person, every situation, brings a way for us to encounter Jesus and get to know Him more.

We visited many people in the community where our Partner, REAP Granada operates. We did prayer walks, visited the local dump, the hospital, prayed with people in the streets, and many received Jesus.

The story of 74 year old Marlene really stuck with me. Marlene lives a life of gratitude and reverence to God. When we walked into this little shack of a house, Marlene came out to greet us with the biggest joy one can exude. Right away she started to praise God for the visit and how happy she was to have us there to pray for her.

Marlene went on to share the challenges she was going through. The house she lives in floods when it rains, and to make matters worse, the house belongs to one of her sons who is trying to kick her out as he doesn’t care if she goes homeless.

Marlene also shared how her daughter, who is married and lives away, has disowned her and provides no help or care for Marlene’s situation. Marlene’s health is poor due to lack of food and resources to have medical care.

I can sit here and share more things I learned about Marlene’s challenges but what really struck me was her love for God. During this whole conversation, this woman had nothing but good things to say about her faith and the love she feels for God. She said even if her situation wasn’t the best and her kids disowned her, she knows God loves her.

How about that for unconditional love?

Marlene asked us to pray for her kids, for her 3 boys and daughter to be well, and that they find their way to know Jesus and God’s love through Him. That was all she asked for.

I lost it. I was crying like a little kid hearing Marlene speak with such gratitude towards God. And so today, I would like to invite you to seek God’s love, to get to know Him through every person and every situation, and with that, go and love one another just like He loves us.
