Give Yourself Away -Devotional

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather He made himself nothing by taking on the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself by becoming obedient to death-even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:5-8).

This one scripture always knocks me to my knees. How great is our Savior. Jesus -- Savior, Creator, Redeemer and Humble Servant for me. Such love is almost too much to comprehend.

We are told to have the “same mindset as Christ Jesus.” To live our lives in a way that puts others first. To look for ways and opportunities to serve our brothers and sisters above self.

C.S. Lewis wrote, “True humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.”

Jesus is our example, and “He did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage.” So we need to get ourselves off our minds and be about our Father’s business.

We are the body of Christ. We will work best if we will work together. Just like the human body, we are complex and complete in our design. The heart pumping blood properly is only successful when that pumped blood is carried through the body by blood vessels. The vessels are no more or less important than the heart. They need each other for proper healthy functioning.

James 4:6 teaches us, “He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: He opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” We are not alone in our giving. Jesus gave first. Jesus reached out to us first. Jesus humbled Himself first. We are only asked to follow the example that He set. We will be met in grace as we give. As we reach out in love we know that love was first extended to us.

Jesus desires to use us -- His beloved children -- to reach the lost, the hurting, the lonely and the overlooked; to be His hands, feet, eyes, ears, voice and touch. Hebrews 6:19 says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul.” So won’t you humble yourself and drop the anchor of His hope in the life of another?

Trust Him with your story and to know that every bump and bruise along the way can and will be used to bring Him glory as you surrender by simply saying, “Yes Lord, here I am use me.” Then go out and love the world in Jesus’ name. Live pointing to Jesus, praising Him in the storms of life as well as the sweet spots.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God wants to use you to love the world. It is the very reason that He gave us Jesus and the reason Jesus came. That not one would perish -- you are invited into that plan.

As you live in relationships with one another, would you humble yourself and share His amazing love? That not one would perish is the heart of our Father. To live the mindset of Christ is to humble yourself and be obedient to the call of God. We are the body of Christ -- let’s give ourselves away to see lives changed and the kingdom grow!
