Team Blog: Day 1 and 2

Wow is all I can say. We met at the church at 3:30am and didn’t make it to Nicaragua until 1:30 am. It was a very long day and interesting, having to go through so many checkpoints to get into Nicaragua.

Because of our long travels, our first full day got off to a slow start. We started with breakfast, then had orientation about life with Reap Granada, and a boat tour of the islands.

This is my second trip to Nicaragua and when we arrived at the farm at 1:30am after traveling for the last 24hr, I felt a sense of peace. Then when we started the day and I saw familiar faces, I felt like I was home. This is my first time doing a mission trip without my husband, Jeremy, and I truly feel like God was quieting my spirit to help me know I am where He wants me to be and that I am home with Him. Home for this week is in Nicaragua. Home is wherever God’s presence is.

What I love about the mission of Reap Granada is that they keep things very basic and just love people the way Jesus loves people. 2 Corinthians 5:14-20 is the foundation of what their mission is. Christ’s love compels us to see people from a heavenly view instead of a worldly view. He wants to reconcile us to Him. Therefore, we are his ambassadors, as though he is making his appeal through us.

Getting away on a mission trip is fun and exciting, but the best part is the work the Lord does in our heart. As we closed out the day today, our team met and what we all shared is how God was opening our eyes. We felt very vulnerable and we are anxiously waiting to see how He uses this week to mold us into who He created us to be.

Nicaragua is the land of lakes and volcanos.
