The Impact of Sponsorship

Do you know the impact your sponsorship is having on your child?

The pandemic changed everything about our lives. It wiped out structure, routines and it challenged our decision making. It was the same for our Mission Life Child Development Centers. Everyone was forced to get used to a new way of living and families used to meeting up outside were told to stay indoors cutting off communication. The kids weren’t able to come to the centers regularly and our teachers had to find new ways to connect to continue to serve their needs such as home visits.

Lorena, one of the teachers at Formavida says, “It wasn’t easy to get connected to the children in my class because they don’t have computers and internet at home. It took a lot of effort to try to get them what they needed.”

It was a year of navigating tremendous turmoil and lost jobs. Here in the U.S., sometimes there’s some savings or 401k to fall back on or government aid, but things don’t work the same in second and third world countries. If you don’t go to work and make the one to three dollars, you won’t be able to feed your family. Parents take the job at the local dump or sell food in the streets despite the risk to provide.

Last year, Bishop Theo told us the story of a family of twelve in the countryside of Rwanda who went three days without eating.

Through the grace of God, through those sponsorship dollars, whole families are able to eat. Because of your unwavering commitment to your child, each center diligently provides the essentials such as a bag of rice, a carton of milk, bread and pampers to whole families. Your dollars mean children can come to the center in small groups to use computers for schoolwork. In Rwanda, children continued their education and got help with homework through home visits.

Our global partner staff, who already serve in several roles, focused their efforts on making sure children and families were taken care of. As things progress, as we get used to our new normal and structure and routines return, the children are coming back! In fact, in Rwanda, they just returned to the Child Hope Center and they’re so happy to be back! (Make sure to turn on closed captioning.)

Please know that your Mission Life child and their families are so incredibly grateful for your love and support through this challenging time. It would be a much different story without your help. It is a perfect example of how God takes a bad situation to bring people of faith together and through the unconditional love of Christ around the world, we take care of each other.
