That photo was taken in Kigali, Rwanda during a mission trip in 2018. We were visiting the community of Kimisagara, in the outskirts of the city. When we got out of the vans, we noticed a group of children standing outside the church and as soon as we got out, they flocked to us in such a welcoming way it was overwhelming. As the team and I were about to go inside the tent this community used as a church, the kids surrounding us stopped and stayed back.

I love how John describes what it really means to love one another. When we love, we are willing to sacrifice the self for another person without expecting anything in return. Real, unconditional love is an action. It's not just a nice feeling that makes you warm and fuzzy inside. Love is hard at times and it takes energy and effort.

One of the owners, the husband who is an immigrant from Colombia, shared some words of gratitude to those who attended the event. But for me, there was one moment in particular that really stood out. He expressed how grateful he was for this country.

In 2019, a beautiful partnership with Africa Hope Initiatives ignited a new story of hope for a couple of communities in Kigali, Rwanda. During a mission trip to this beautiful country the year prior, God answered prayers confirming that Mission Life should get involved in light of a call he made to one of our volunteers to help the children of Rwanda.
